In this answer, you find step-by-step instructions and an example of searching the ATLA Religion database by a Scripture reference using the index of Bible Citation.
1. Go to the Fuller library database page: https://infoguides.fuller.edu/az.php
2. Select ATLA with ATLAS (periodicals), the American Theological Library Association database.
3. At the top of the page, mouse over on the tab More.
4. Click on the link Indexes appearing under the tab More.
5. Go to the Browse an Index box and use a drop down menu to select Bible Citation.
6. In the Browse for box, type in a Book of the Bible (title), book part or letter part, chapter and verse. For example, Timothy 1:7.
To add a correct format for the book reference, consult a Scripture Hierarchical Index located at the Scripture tab at the top of ATLA database page. For example, Timothy, 1st 1:7 or Timothy, 2nd 1:7.
7. Click the Browse button to start a search for Bible Citation references.
8. Select the check boxes for the references that you're interested in.
To find more results, include a group of chapters and verses that precede or follow the exact reference of the chapter and verse that you search for. Click Next to view the Bible Citation index entries on the next page.
9. Click on the ADD or Search button to add the Index references to the main search box at the top of the page.
The search criteria added from a Bible Citation index starts with the abbreviation ZP, an exact subject.
For example,
(ZP "timothy, 2nd 1:7") or (ZP "timothy, 2nd 1:7 - 1:10") or (ZP "timothy, 2nd 1:3 - 1:7") or (ZP "timothy, 2nd 1:6 - 1:10") or (ZP "timothy, 2nd 1:6 - 1:14") or (ZP "timothy, 2nd 1:6 - 1:7") or (ZP "timothy, 2nd 1:6 - 1:8")
10. Then, click Search. View and evaluate the results.
Other citation indexes for the Quran, Book of Mormon, Mishnah and Babylonian Talmud are also available on ATLA.
