Turnitin is an online plagiarism detection service that some faculty utilize as part of the assignment submission process in Canvas. Turnitin Originality checker combines text-matching with writing-style and metadata analysis to promote academic integrity and help prevent plagiarism.

Turnitin produces a similarity report that highlights student paper content that matches Turnitin's document database. The report must be analyzed to determine what passages are legitimate uses of existing language (e.g. direct citation/ quoting), and what passages might constitute plagiarism. You can view a sample report here.

Students are able to run a preliminary check on their papers before final submission on the canvas help resource page

Turnitin replaced Fuller's previous academic integrity software, Urkund, in January 2023.

See the links below for more information about Turnitin and related instructions for both students and faculty.
