Current Fuller students, faculty, and staff can place a hold on a book that is checked out. The "hold" function is only for books that are already checked out of the library, so a hold should not be placed on a book that is shown as "available" on the catalog.
If the item you wish to borrow is checked out, on the library catalog there will be a blue "Place Hold" button. Click the button, log in with your Fuller ID, and submit the hold request. You can manage your holds, including cancelling holds, on your library account.
As soon as the item is returned to the library and checked back into the system, library staff will be notified that you are next in line. The system will automatically send an email to you to inform you that the book is now available. The book will be kept behind the front desk for you to pick up. If you do not come to the front desk to retrieve it within 10 days, it will be re-shelved.
Putting a book on hold is sometimes referred to as "requesting" a book. (Note: this is different from "recalling" a book.)
