Turnitin utilizes the Ithenticate database (minus dissertations and "internal documents") in addition to its archive of 300 million submitted student papers. Ithenticate includes an archive of 60 billion web pages and 154 million published content items, including 49 million published works from over 800 scholarly publisher participants in 30 languages. Publishers include EBSCO, Pubmed/Medline, Sage, Oxford UP, McGraw-Hill etc.
A larger listing of publishers is available here, along with a searchable index of covered journals. You can also view a comparison of turnitin and Ithenticate services and databases here (scroll to bottom).
- I often have student papers with extensive quotations from common textbooks but Turnitin does not find these quotations. Without being able to see if certain books are included, and with this continuing lack of helpfulness, I find no benefit in using the program.
